Review: Bruce Springsteen at Air Canada Centre16 February 2016 / by David Matta (author)
The iconic Bruce Springsteen delivered an electric and uplifting set with the E Street Band on their Toronto stop on February 2nd at the Air Canada Centre as part of their River Tour 2016. The tour is in support of the new River box set, and so for each show, Bruce and Co. brought the audience “Down to the River”, playing the entire album from beginning to end.
The band then played through beloved classics such as “The Promised Land”, and even the rarity, “Candy’s Room”. The crowd sang along proudly for “Thunder Road” and “Born to Run”, and roared excitedly when Bruce brought an 89-year old woman up on stage to dance with him during “Dancing in the Dark”. Springsteen and band then closed out the show with a truly heart-stopping, earth-shaking cover of The Isley Brothers’ classic, “Shout”.
All in all, everything you’ve ever heard about an E Street Band show (and more) is absolutely true; the energy and the passion is clearly present – I’ve never seen any band or performer put in so much of themselves to make the show as perfect as it could be.
