It has been a busy season behind-the-scenes here at CJRU|The Scope at Ryerson. We are still growing our CJRU team and this month we welcome our new Technical Supervisor, Michael Newton and News Director, Emily Joveski.
Michael comes to CJRU from the Toronto Radio Project - a local, grassroots audio initiative. With a background in Music Business Admission from George Brown, Michael is an avid music producer who dabbles on keys, guitar and bass. Nowadays you can find The Weakerthans on the top of Michael's set list. You can ask Michael to be part of CJRU's production team or chat about his days as an elementary school chess champion.
Emily Joveski joined the team in 2011 as Volunteer Coordinator, and was instrumental in the development and growth of CJRU on in the Ryerson and greater Toronto communities. Emily founded CJRU's first weekly news show, and is excited to have the opportunity to expand and develop the station's spoken word programming in her role as News Director. Emily's love for community radio started in middle school when she began volunteering at Kootenay Co-op Radio in British Columbia. With more than 10-years experience in community media, Emily says she loves how community radio news programs can connect and empower people. Emily is in her last year at Ryerson's School of Journalism and has interned at CBC Radio. When she isn't reviewing your podcasts and demos, she is hanging out with her charming hairless cat, Anouk. Emily's number one piece of advice for volunteers is to always keep your ears open for an interesting story.
Stay tuned this summer for an update on our collaborative app project, our coverage of the Parapan Games and an exciting announcement regarding our transmission site.
