Summer Jobs at CJRU

CJRU is hiring four summer positions to assist in programming at our station this summer. Please note: the health and safety of our community, our staff and our volunteers is our first priority. Tasks may be adjusted to allow for meaningful work from home. 

 

Community Reporter: June 8 - August 14 (28 hours per week)

Our Community Reporter will liaise with the community and create radio that reflects it. Tasks include: conducting interviews, hosting radio programming, producing community features, assisting volunteers in programming and sharing station news on social media.

 

Music Librarian: June 8 - August 14 (28 hours per week)

Our Music Librarian will manage our stations ever growing music library and provide support to our programmers in terms of music they are playing as well as assisting them in setting up artist interviews. Tasks include: music ingest and review, compiling and submitting weekly charts, corresponding with artists and labels, booking artist interviews as requested by programmers, sharing new music with staff and volunteers at the station and reaching out to local artists about opportunities at CJRU.

 

Youth Outreach Coordinator: June 22 - August 28 (28 hours per week)

The Youth Outreach Coordinator will design and run radio-related events and training with a  focus on engaging children and youth. Specific tasks include: coordinating with community partners, running summer camp workshops and volunteer training workshops.

 

Festival Reporter: June 22 - August 28 (28 hours per week)

Our Festival Reporter will bring the sounds of Toronto to our airwaves. Tasks include creating engaging radio and content for our website, assisting with online events and productions, managing digital assets, organizing accreditation for volunteers where applicable and getting this coverage to air and shared on social media.

 

Requirements:

These positions are part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program with funding provided by Service Canada. To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

  • Be legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial legislation and regulations (international students on a work/study permit are not eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Program).

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a volunteer or employee in community media or other not-for-profit environments

  • Media production experience and familiarity with audio editing

  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills

  • Comfortable using social media

  • Outgoing, friendly and reliable

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

 

Contract Terms:

Hours as described for each position at a rate of $15 per hour.
