Toronto, ON - CJRU Radio Ryerson is thrilled to welcome Elissa Pearl Matthews in her new role as Interim Station Manager. Elissa has previously held the position of Program Director at CJRU since 2013.
“Elissa is responsible for the fresh sound that you’ve enjoyed on CJRU, and no one knows the station better. I can say with enthusiasm that the entire board of directors is excited to assist Elissa in taking campus radio at Ryerson to the next level” says Radio Ryerson Board Chair and Dean of FCAD, Charles Falzon.
Elissa led the organizing team for the National Campus and Community Radio Conference hosted in June 2019 here at CJRU. This past year Elissa successfully applied for a grant from the Community Radio Fund of Canada to host and promote local musicians live in studio and at venues on and around campus. CJRU Live Off the Floor begins this month with in-studio performances. Videos of these performances will be released during a showcase show on January 16, 2020 at The Music Den.
Elissa looks forward to her new role at the station “I’m really excited for this new opportunity at a station that I care deeply about. I look forward to continuing to grow our station and serve our communities.”
An RTA School of Media grad, Elissa knows Toronto’s music ecosystem well. Previously she worked in digital content management for Zoomer Media and holds a Project Management Certificate.
Elissa takes over for CJRU’s founding Station Manager Jacky Tuinstra Harrison who is taking on a new and exciting role as the Executive Director for Matthew House.
CJRU volunteers and hosts will be welcoming Elissa to the team at our next Volunteer Meeting.
CJRU 1280AM is Ryerson University's campus and community multi-media hub. Our station airs a variety of programming from the university, Ryerson students, and the community at large. In March of 2016 we started broadcasting on the AM dial. The station uniquely provides students with the opportunity to learn about emerging artists in Toronto. CJRU 1280AM’s goal is to provide Ryerson University and the downtown core with a sense of community.
