This week CJRU is raising $3300 to continue the  Refugee Radio weekly workshop series. Originally piloted with Syrian refugees, CJRU provides meals, tokens, mentorship and a place to learn new skills.

“The radio station is a great launching pad for newcomers and refugees to find community & build their confidence,” said organizer Ebraheem Kanaan.

Each participant produces a mini-documentary for radio, while refining their confidence in English. Even a dollar goes a long way in providing better accessibility for our participants, so please visit our Fund Drive page to see this year’s pledge gifts, and support this important program.

“In the first round of workshops we hosted, we had all women refugees, all from Syria. They show up each and every week excited to learn something new and to help each other,” said manager Jacky Tuinstra harrison.  “After they shared some of their personal stories, I was really grieved by some of the trauma these women experienced, but more than that, I think we were all amazed at their total resilience and bravery in forging a new life in Toronto. I feel lucky they are my neighbours.”

Please donate and support your local campus radio, CJRU 1280AM, and the Refugee Radio workshop series.
