Open hearts open eyes open minds open. Eyeda Sophia has recently released her long anticipated solo debut album titled Much Love. Eyeda Sophia has been a staple in the Toronto Hip Hop scene for a while now. She is constantly going to shows and events as well as hosting her own for the community. She has been in several spoken word competitions and festivals and is the founder of the annual “Summer Cypher” which is an outdoor event that gives an opportunity for Toronto MC’s to show off their Freestyle skills.

Eyeda Sophia grew up in Toronto in a displaced home and struggled with finding a home. She moved around several times as a youth and never had a strong sense of belonging. She found poetry at an early age. Her father had a crates full of records in the basement and his love for music rubbed off on her and her brother.

The first pieces of Hip Hop that really moved her was a Black Star album. Ever since then she was hooked being influenced by artists such as Kool G Rap, Rakim and Heather B.

Her music is poetry in motion. Filled with soul, honesty, emotion, complex rhymes and word play.

Eyeda Sophia affectionately ends all of her emails with "Much Love" giving her the inspiration for the name of the 6 track collection of art. The project soon became an open letter to herself, touching on the theme of homecoming.

“A year before the release of Much Love I was in a dark place. I managed to escape that place and become cemented in a home within myself. This is what I am trying to express when I mention homecoming. My album is themed around finding a home within yourself.”

Much Love is a must listen with some stand-out tracks including “Open” and “The River.”  You can check out the full project for free here.

It was good am, right? My gosh. She will also be performing live on December 27th at CJRU Presents: Live Super Dope. It is a Toronto Rap & Hip Hop artist showcase. A party you can't miss. For full details and tickets click here.
