A crowd of fans, artists and industry professionals packed the Phoenix Concert Theatre Wednesday night for the 17th annual Canadian Radio Music Awards.

The show, which is an annual celebration of the best in Canadian music as chosen by Canadian radio hosts and program directors, began with a performance from Toronto pop-rockers Down With Webster, who delivered two booming tracks to get things going.

The first award of the night went to young Toronto rock band, Crystalyne, who took home the Radio Star award, which included professional recording equipment, studio time, and a $10 000 cash prize.

Other award highlights included Factor Breakthrough Artist of the Year, which went to Tim HicksHead of the Herd for Best New Rock Group; and Walk Off The Earth, who owned the night, taking home four awards, including Fans’ Choice.

Big winners Walk Off The Earth closed the show with a 50-minute set of their unique brand of high-energy rock, which featured several different instruments, including an electric toothbrush, which was used for a sound effect, and a lot of confetti.

The night was an energizing showcase of emerging Canadian talents who rocked the stage, proving that Canada truly is the epicentre of new and hot music.
